Epson Invites Photographers to “Finish Strong” in New Advertising
Contest
Epson today announced a continuation of its “Finish Strong” advertising campaign, developed by M&C Saatchi Los Angeles, with a new photography
contest. Photographers are invited to submit an idea for Epson’s next Finish Strong ad. The winner will receive either an opportunity to attend an actual
photo shoot with world-renowned photographer Joe McNally or a $5,000 cash prize.
“Photographers have an uncanny ability to pre-visualize amazing photographs,” said Richard Day, group product manager, Professional Imaging,
Epson America, Inc. “This contest provides the chance for anyone to see their concept of a Finish Strong ad come to life. The winner will be in very
good company with the likes of the photographers from previous ads, including Corinne Alavekios, Moose Peterson and Joe McNally.”
For the past three years, Epson has collaborated with some of the industry’s leading photographers to create the Finish Strong advertising campaign,
which celebrates both the photograph and the photographer in their pursuit of that final defining print. The Finish Strong Campaign has captured
some of the extraordinary lengths photographers will go to for the perfect shot – the intensity of a New York City fashion shoot, a portrait session waist
deep in a Pacific Northwest river,air-to-air aviation over the searing heat of the Arizona desert, and underwater in the freezing conditions of the
Antarctic Ocean.
“We’re constantly inspired by the passion our Finish Strong photographers bring totheir projects,”said Maria Smith, associate creative director, M&C Saatchi
Los Angeles. “This contest takes the Finish Strong campaign into an exciting new phase and invites photographers to let us know what inspires them”
Epson’s contest began on March 1 and ends on April 15. Entrants can participate by submitting 200 words or less describing their idea for Epson’s next
print ad. More information, including the submission form and previous “Finish Strong” print advertisements, can be found at

Pro GS6000. EPSON GS DisplayTrans™ Backlight Film is an extremely high-resolution backlight film designed for professional solvent backlight displays
or daylight signage graphic applications. EPSON GS Canvas Satin is Epson’s newest Signature Worthy® paper, providing a premium quality canvas
with the same coating utilized on the highly successful GS Canvas Gloss, but with a satin finish that has less surface gloss.

displays, as well as top of the line fine art reproduction and high volume décor output applications,” said Jeff Smith, product manager, Epson America,
Inc. “The GS DisplayTrans Backlight Film provides an easy way to use solvent technology for producing stunning backlit prints, versus a labor-
intensive, chemical-based system that many customers use today. The GS Canvas Satin delivers unmatched resolution and saturation characteristics,
providing advanced image quality to inspire and enhance the creative process.”
The GS DisplayTrans Backlight Film is a new backlit material designed for high quality solvent printing, allowing sign shops, service providers and labs to
use solvent technology to produce stunning backlits with dense blacks, brilliant colors and clean highlights at a quality level that was previously not
possible with solvent printers. Delivering sharp images with output speeds of up to 40 square feet an hour in single strike mode, this new film is ideal
for labs and service providers that need to cost-effectively complete short production runs while maintaining the highest quality.
Following the success of the GS Canvas Glossy, the GS Canvas Satin delivers the same coating technology customers have come to expect in a
canvas, but with less surface gloss, providing a large gamut for exceptional colors and industry leading Dmax for deep, dark blacks. The paper is
durable, heavyweight and capable of being stretched for various display applications, making it ideal for portrait photography and color landscapes.
Designed to meet the needs of higher volume production applications of Epson’s solvent printers, the GS Canvas Satin provides art reproduction
houses the highest image quality at production speeds, while delivering unmatched resolution and saturation and still offering the look and feel of a
traditional artist canvas. In addition, the GS Canvas Satin and EPSON solvent printers provide a solution that eliminates the need for additional
varnish applications or finishing of the prints, offering huge labor savings during the finishing process.

photographer best known for his stunning black and white reflections of the most recognized faces in entertainment. Gorman used the industry-leading Epson
Stylus® Pro 9900 printer along with the recently introduced Signature Worthy™ Exhibition Fiber Paper in rolls to print the exhibition at the Pacific Design Center in
California.
“The Epson Stylus Pro 9900 printer and my favorite paper, Exhibition Fiber, provides more tonal control in my black-and-white images and richer blacks than I
could ever do in the darkroom,” said Gorman. “In addition, new Exhibition Fiber Paper in rolls allowed me to print images for the exhibit up to 40”x60”. In the past,
I wasn’t able to make prints that large myself, and the quality of the prints at these larger sizes helped me bring my vision for ‘A Distinct Vision’ to life.”
Used by Gorman to print the black-and-white prints on display, the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 incorporates Epson’s exclusive advanced black-and-white printing
technology – a unique driver technology that takes full advantage of the three-level black ink system to produce prints from color or grayscale image files. This
advanced technology provides a consistent print with no color crossover or color cast.
“A Distinct Vision” 1970-2010 is a retrospective exhibition covering four decades of images made by Gorman. The exhibition encompasses the broad range of
Gorman’s photographic career which includes his iconic images of personalities from the worlds of film, sports and music. Photographs from Gorman’s most
recent publication “In Their Youth” will also be featured.
The exhibition is on view at the Pacific Design Center, Sept.15 – Oct. 29, 2010, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For additional information, visit

Epson Introduces World’s First Aqueous-Based White Ink Proofing
Technology
Epson America Inc. is announcing an all-new contract-quality proofing system that is designed to dramatically
improve how package designers and flexographic and gravure printing professionals produce packaging mock-
ups and proofs. The Epson Stylus® Pro WT7900 takes advantage of the world’s first aqueous-based white ink
printing technology and Epson’s latest achievements in high-resolution ink jet technology. Together, these
advancements produce a new way of printing with the color white on a broad range of substrates including ink
jet coated transparent and metallic films.
“For years, proofing products in this market have been very expensive for customers to purchase, maintain and
operate,” said Mark Radogna, group product manager, Epson America. “When a white ink is required in the
printing process, the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 represents an exciting new way for proofing and prototyping both
flexographic and gravure printing products.”
Designed specifically for proofing flexographic and gravure print jobs that require the color white, the Epson
Stylus Pro WT7900 incorporates Epson’s latest achievements in high-resolution ink jet technology – including
the breakthrough Epson UltraChrome® HDR White Ink. Epson UltraChrome HDR White Ink introduces an
all-new Organic Hollow Resin Particle Technology, which forces light to randomly scatter, producing the illusion
of seeing the color white.
This innovative approach to producing the color white results in an extremely high white ink density, as well
as the ability for custom white color toning. It also provides professional short-term color stability for mission-critical
color proofing on a range of new substrates including ink jet coated transparent and metallic films. Unlike
traditional white ink chemistry, Epson UltraChrome HDR White Ink is a safer, water-based resin particle that is
void of any known carcinogens.
Capable of printing directly on both ink jet coated clear and metallic films, in roll or cut sheet, up to 24 inches
wide, the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 can proof virtually any size print job thrown at it. Whether creating contract
proofs of various packaging products requiring a clear or metallic base, or producing color accurate packaging
mock-ups or prototypes, the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 can easily proof the most difficult flexographic and
gravure print jobs.
In addition, Epson America worked closely with CGS, EFI, GMG, Esko Artwork, and Kodak to ensure their RIP
and workflow software takes full advantage of the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 technology.
The Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 will be available through authorized Epson resellers in February 2010 for an
estimated price of $8,495.

29 May 2008 - At drupa 2008 Epson, together with its industry partners, is showcasing new technologies that
will enable it to move into new, vertical sectors whilst maintaining its leading position in the traditional large
format printer market such as production and contract proofing, packaging proofing and remote proofing. On
a booth three times larger than ever before (A01 in hall 5) a range of new Epson solutions show how a
combination of quality, flexibility, reliability and productivity can deliver high-quality inkjet digital print solutions
that address the challenges of the printing industry.
Epson’s award-winning development of UltraChrome ink and its knowledge and expertise in its core Micro
Piezo print head technology have brought inkjet to such a high standard of quality and reliability that it can
now be used for a variety of commercial production-oriented printing applications including print-for-pay (PfP),
label printing, print-on-demand, exhibition graphics, signage and photo and fine-art reproduction. Solutions for
all these sectors are being shown on the stand at drupa where there are demonstrations of high-quality
output combined with fast turnaround that is required by these demanding markets.
"Drupa 2008 is being talked about as the show where inkjet becomes mainstream. Visitors to the Epson stand
can see for themselves how Micro Piezo inkjet technology has developed to such a high standard that we
are now able to broaden its use into commercial, production-oriented applications," says Duncan Ferguson,
Director of Pro-Graphics and New Business Development at Epson Europe.
New Product - Epson Stylus Pro GS 6000
The Stylus Pro GS6000 is a 64" large format printer with an 8-colour ink set, offering the widest colour gamut to
date in a printer designed for both indoor and outdoor applications. The new ink set allows production of
high-impact, high-quality and durable prints enabling printers, copy-shops and sign shops to extend their
business into higher quality demanding applications such as airport and exhibition graphics, as well as
art-reproduction.
Integral to the quality and durability of print output is the new Epson UltraChrome GS, an 8-colour eco-solvent
type ink set (C,M,Y,K,LC,LM,+ O,G) with an exceptionally wide colour palette. This ink set also addresses
commonly used spot colours and is available in efficient 950ml cartridges. Importantly for the environment
and operators, Epson UltraChrome GS ink doesn’t spread harmful VOCs (volatile organic compound) and is
the first major eco-solvent type ink set to be launched without the need for a hazard symbol. This makes the
Stylus Pro GS6000 both environmentally- and user-friendly. Additional ventilation isn’t required and Epson
focused on significantly reducing the need for time-consuming daily operator maintenance thus increasing
available production time.
The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 has a resolution up to 1440x1440 dpi and a 3.7 picolitre droplet. Production
speeds of up to 25m2/hour using Epson’s Variable-sized Ink Droplet and MicroWeave half-toning Technologies
deliver fast-drying, scratch-resistant prints that are water and UV resistant for up to 1.5 years without lamination
but can be laminated for applications exposed to intensive mechanical stress or abrasion. The Stylus Pro
GS6000 will be supported by all major RIP vendors and will retail at €29,995 (ex VAT), including
auto-take-up-reel to support heavy rolls up to 30kg, a maintenance and starter-kit. News Update on Vertical
Market Solutions Epson is also demonstrating the next generation of the Epson label printer concept which was
first launched at LabelExpo 2007. In addition there are demonstrations of Epson’s new Micro Piezo print head
technology, including a new product with a MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) print head. Furthermore Epson is
showcasing innovative applications it has developed with its partners based on Epson’s market leading inkjet
technology, such as remote proofing, textile printing and inkjet CtP.
Epson Launches Stylus Pro 7900 & 9900 Large Format Printers
29 May 2008 - Epson is launching the 24" Stylus Pro 7900 and 44" Stylus Pro 9900, setting a new standard for
the professional large format printer market. An improved ink formulation, a new printer mechanism and a raft
of new technologies make these two new additions to the Epson Stylus Pro range ideal for production and
contract proofing, as well as the highest quality fine-art and photographic applications. They will also enable
printers to extend their business into the demanding packaging proofing and flexographic markets. In addition
an optional calibration and verification system, the Epson SpectroProofer, means the Stylus Pro 7900 and the
Stylus Pro 9900 can be a confidently used for remote proofing.
The new printer mechanism implemented in the Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 builds on Epson’s MicroPiezo TFP
(Thin Film Piezo) print head, introduced with the launch of the Stylus Pro 11880 last year. It delivers perfectly
spherical dots with high precision dot placement and can deliver resolutions up to 2880 dpi. Both the number
of nozzles and throughput has been doubled in the Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900, resulting in a maximum speed
of up to 40m2/hr. At these increased print speeds, the new 10-channel MicroPiezo TFP print head ensures
production of the highest image quality.
The Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900 utilize a new 5th generation pigment ink, which is key to the
quality of print output. Epson UltraChrome HDR (High Dynamic Range) ink is an 11-colour ink set consisting of
Pk, Mk, Lk, LLK, C, VM, Y, Lc, VLm, Or and Gr available in 350ml and 700ml cartridges. This high quality ink
set expands on Epson’s UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta by adding Orange and Green inks, which
significantly increases the range of colours that can be achieved, especially bright green to yellow, and yellow
to red. The Orange ink in particular contributes to reducing the graininess in skin tone. Epson UltraChrome
HDR pushes the limits of ink chemistry to deliver the widest colour gamut on the market to date on a variety
of media. This makes the Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 ideal solutions to address the high demand for colour
representation in proof production, especially when there is a particular requirement for spot colours.
The new ink technology’s ability to both maximize the colour gamut without sacrificing print quality and deliver
smoother gradation is optimized by Epson’s new LUT technology. Through advanced mathematical translation
of RGB into 11-colour CMYK, the LUT technology seamlessly integrates hi-fidelity primaries allowing colour
constancy under different light conditions, smoother transitions between colours, grain reduction and gamut
smoothing. The optional Epson SpectroProofer™ tool turns the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900
into a reliable, consistent and repeatable proof verification and printer calibration solution, making remote
proofing a reality. By using this spectrophotometer solution, the following colour control workflows can be
achieved automatically and very precisely: colour calibration, colour certification, a daily colour check,
profile creation, spot colour matching, colour shift tracking and target measurement. Furthermore, a colour
certification label, like the Fogra wedge, can be printed to support the certification process. The Epson
SpectroProofer™ in-line, off-carriage calibration and verification system is powered by an X-Rite spectrophotometer
and controlled by Epson SpectroProofer™ software or a third party RIP. It is available with or without a UV-cut
filter as well as changeable black or white backing.
Other new technologies featured in the Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 include the ability to automatically switch
between Photo and Matte Black inks; an integral automatic media rotary knife cutting system; a new spindleless
roll holder mechanism; a new automatic paper set/release mechanism and Epson’s new automatic nozzle
check technology. In addition, the launch of the two new printers also sees the launch of a new line up of
high performance fine art media, as well as backlit media.
Marco van Niekerk, Senior Product Manager, Large Format Printers at Epson Europe says, "The Stylus Pro
7900 and 9900 are the latest additions to the Epson professional graphics range. These solutions deliver
Epson quality, speed and repeatability to help address the requirements of commercial printers and enable
them to broaden their business. The new technologies and features implemented in these two solutions make
them ideal for entering new market sectors, such as the flexographic market, and also address the needs of
production proofing companies by giving them a professional remote-proofing device which makes remote
proofing a true reality."

LONG BEACH, Calif. - May 10, 2005 - Epson is once again advancing its printing technology into new territory
for professional photographers and graphic artists with the launch of the Epson Stylus Pro 4800, Epson Stylus
Pro 7800, Epson Stylus Pro 9800, and new Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology. The combination of these
new printers and archival inks not only gives today's most demanding professionals the widest gamut of
archival color ink jet printing to date, but an almost infinite degree of black and white image control that rivals
all other forms of photographic printing.
All three printers introduce several new and advanced features and technologies, most notably Epson

of Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology, today's most discerning creative professionals have the tools to
express their true creative visions," said Mark Radogna, group product manager, professional graphics, Epson.
"Whether an artist's goal is to create the best exhibit-quality color prints possible or world-class black and white
photography, their only limitations will be talent and imagination."
New Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink Technology
Inspired by Epson's past generations of pigmented inks, Epson UltraChrome K3 uses higher density pigments
designed to increase image quality for both professional color and black and white prints. In addition to cyan,
magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta, Epson UltraChrome K3 features a unique three-level black ink
system that simultaneously uses black, light black and light-light black inks. This technology is designed to
create professional neutral and toned black and white prints without color crossover or color casts. It also
reduces the effects of metamerism or bronzing often associated with basic pigment chemistry. Furthermore,
Epson's proprietary driver and screening technology offer users a unique method for converting color digital
images into professional quality black and white prints.
Epson UltraChrome K3 also produces higher degrees of color fidelity and uses a new high-gloss Microcrystal
Encapsulation(tm) resin chemistry to create prints with greater scratch resistance and reduced gloss differential.
These prints are rated to resist fading up to 108 years for color prints and more than 200 years for black and
white prints on specific Epson papers.
The Epson Stylus Pro 4800, 7800 and 9800 offer users two unique ink modes - Photo Black and Matte Black -
that are designed to optimize the level of black ink density on different types of media. The Photo Black ink
mode can be selected to help maximize the deepness and richness of black tones on glossy/luster media
such as Epson's Premium Luster. The Matte Black mode uses a different black density to maximize the
deepness and richness of black tones on fine art surfaces such as Epson's Velvet Fine Art, Enhanced Matte
and UltraSmooth Fine Art.
New 8-Channel Print Head Technology
Epson's new high-performance, one-inch wide print head features 180 nozzles per channel and can achieve
resolution levels up to 2880 x 1440 dpi with variable-sized ink droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters. The Epson
Stylus Pro 4800 is also one of the fastest ink jet printers ever made by Epson, capable of printing a 16"x 20"
photo lab-quality print (using 1,440 x 720 dpi - HS mode) as fast as 6 minutes, 41 seconds. The Epson Stylus
Pro 7800 and 9800 offer print speeds approximately two times faster than their predecessors, the Epson Stylus
Pro 7600 and 9600. Photo lab-quality 24" x 30" prints can be printed as quickly as 14 minutes, 18 seconds,
and same-quality 44" x 60" prints can be printed in approximately 42 minutes, 30 seconds (all using 1,440 x
720 dpi - HS mode).
Epson has enhanced its manufacturing process to include colorimetric calibration. A technology called Epson
PreciseColor(tm) evaluates each printer's output during the manufacturing process and automatically fine tunes
each printer's settings to ensure consistent color output from one printer to the next.
Setup time is also greatly reduced by a built-in auto head alignment feature. This technology uses a built-in
white beam sensor that automatically scans printed alignment patterns created by the printer and then makes
automated adjustments if necessary. The same white beam sensor is also used to detect clogged nozzles
and automatically activate head cleaning cycles when/if necessary.
Professional Media Handling
The Epson Stylus Pro 4800 can handle virtually any type of media, either in rolls up to 17 inches wide or cut
sheets between 8" x 10" and 17" x 22". There are four ways to load media, which include an adjustable roll
feed for 2-inch and 3-inch cores, a high-capacity cut-sheet tray for up to 50 sheets of photographic media,
top manual feed, and straight-through front manual feed capable of handling up to 1.5-millimeter-thick poster
board. The Epson Stylus Pro 4800 also supports printing on both sides of the media without damaging the
previously printed side and has a built-in media cutter that automatically trims top and bottom edges of roll media
safely and accurately to produce full-bleed images on all four sides.
The Epson Stylus Pro 7800 and 9800 offer nearly all of the same advanced media handling capabilities as the
Epson Stylus Pro 4800, but in sizes up to 24 and 44 inches wide (respectively). Both cut-sheet and roll media
are loaded via the printers' straight-through media path. An optional automatic take-up reel system is also
available exclusively on the Epson Stylus Pro 9800 for unattended production of large print runs.
Intelligent High-Capacity Ink System and Print Job Information
Each of these new printers' ink cartridge channels/slots can handle either 110 ml or 220 ml cartridges (or a
combination of both sizes) that can even be replaced in the middle of a print job. Each cartridge uses Epson's
Intelligent High-Capacity Ink technology, a feature that stores a variety of information on a memory chip and
communicates the data to the printer whenever the power is turned on. Also, the printers use built-in memory
to track key print job statistics such as ink levels, ink usage, remaining media, print times, data file names, user
names, print dates and more.
Superior Connectivity and RIP Support
The Epson Stylus Pro 4800, 7800 and 9800 use Epson's professional-level photographic drivers for Macintosh
and Windows, allowing for complete density control even when the driver's color management feature is turned
off. Printer interfaces include one USB 2.0 port, one IEEE 1394 FireWire(tm) port and one expansion slot for
an optional 10/100 BaseT Ethernet card. All three printers are fully supported by most leading third-party RIPs.
EPSON AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS 2003 GATF INTERTECH
TECHNOLOGY AWARD
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Sept. 29, 2003 - Epson America today announced that it's EPSON Stylus Pro 7600 and
9600 professional graphic printers with EPSON UltraChrome Inks and professional proofing media recently
received the prominent 2003 Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) InterTech Technology Award. Epson
was one of 13 recipients recognized by the InterTech judging committee for its technological innovation and
impact on the ink jet and remote proofing industry.
The award acknowledges Epson's SWOP-certified proofing system, a combination of professional graphic printers,
inks and output media for contract-level proofing that delivers precise proofs with a wide color gamut that closely
simulates colors produced on a printing press. Epson's winning combination of products provides consistent and
accurate industry standard proofs, saving customers considerable time and money compared to laborious analog

"We are honored to receive this year's award," said Robert Ozankan, product manager, professional graphics,
Epson. "The response we've received from the industry for these products over the past year and a half has
been extremely rewarding. We remain committed to providing the commercial printing and graphic arts
communities with an easy-to-implement proofing solution that provides the ideal combination of image quality,
print consistency, and stability.
About Epson's Award-Winning Proofing Solution
Epson's advanced Micro Piezo( DX3(tm) ASIC technology is the foundation for the Stylus Pro 7600 and 9600
proofing solutions. The innovative technology controls the printing process to produce consistent image quality
and color output from print to print, utilizing Epson's pigment-based UltraChrome Inks. Epson's seven-color
UltraChrome Inks offer a wide color gamut that matches the pigment inks used on the printing press more closely
than dye-based inks. Additionally, Epson's UltraChrome Inks are significantly more stable than dye-based inks
and dye sublimation technology over time. As a result, the inks produce better short- and long-term environmental
stability, enabling increased color accuracy and consistency for demanding proofing applications.
Also included in Epson's award-winning proofing system are the company's Premium SemiMatte and Commercial
proofing media that were specifically designed for proofing market applications with different base tints to more
accurately match papers used on a press.
