Multifunction Cutting Tables. Versatility for POP.

By Cassandra Balentine

As demand for digitally printed, short-term point of purchase (POP) applications continues to grow, so does the importance of automation and versatility in finishing.

Cutting solutions are a critical component to any print shop offering POP work. Here we highlight systems on the market.

Colex Finishing Solutions Inc.
Among its offerings, the Colex Sharpcut Flatbed Cutter is an easy-to-use cutting solution with an intuitive software platform at its core. Though competitively positioned, it is not to be underestimated for its versatility, throughput, and its ability to help you unlock the full potential of your flatbed or roll-to-roll printer. The Colex Sharpcut Finishing System features an automated and easy-to-use workflow solution for nesting and optimizing media.

Graphic Whizard
Graphic Whizard offers the Sinajet DG/DF Series Flatbed Cutters. The company’s flatbed cutting system offerings range from 1,200×1,600 millimeters (mm) up to 2,500×1,600 mm. Combined with CNC router, this system enables users to work with substrates up to 25 mm in thickness, including dibond, MDF, acrylic, vinyl, paper, and more.

The DG line features an automatic cut depth setting, which reduces setup time and increases operating speed. The three tool interchangeable head allows for a variety of tools, including electronic oscillating tool, kiss-cutting, scoring, perforating, and fabric cutting. Conveyor bed models—DG1216 and DG 2516—provide roll-to-roll capabilities and larger effective cut sizes while minimizing footprint.

Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (PCS)
Kongsberg PCS’s portfolio of digital cutting solutions cater to a range of materials used in display and POP work and offers a large, specialized tooling portfolio.

Kongsberg machines can be purchased in a basic configuration and easily upgraded with new tools as the need arises. Its solutions for display and POP production include the Kongsberg X, Kongsberg C, and Kongsberg Ultimate.

The Kongsberg X is a versatile digital cutting table that provides the ability to switch between cutting, creasing, and high-speed milling across a range of materials. It offers automated tool calibration and easy upgrades and is designed for efficient workflows.

The Kongsberg C is designed to help display producers meet tight schedules, varied job sizes, and last-minute edits. It runs reliably within fully automated workflows, making it the ideal solution for non-stop, high-volume production. Its carbon-composite traverse and powerful rack-and-pinion drive deliver fast, accurate cutting and routing across very wide formats, with a versatile tooling system that handles everything from soft signage to rigid board and milling in one machine.

The Kongsberg Ultimate is built to meet the high-speed demands of modern display production. Thanks to its industrial-scale build, powerful tool set, and high cutting speed, it delivers both precision and performance for high-volume work. Handling tight turnarounds with ease, the Ultimate ensures quality, flexibility, and uptime. It is designed for high productivity, meaning it can run multiple tools at the same time without stopping, and further allows POP producers to scale easily into automated production. In such an environment, safety is paramount, so the Ultimate integrates smart safety technology that reduces downtime and enhances operator safety, slowing down production to remain highly accessible even when operating at full speed.

Kongsberg also offers a range of tooling solutions that enhance productivity and streamline operations for display producers. These include the VariAngle Tool, which enables cutting at any angle between 0 and 60 degrees without manual adjustments; the CorruSpeed Tool, which is designed for high-speed cutting of corrugated board without oscillation; and a range of mining bits and router blades.

Summa
For POP display production, a flatbed cutting table with a conveyor system is essential, and within Summa’s portfolio the F Series stands out as the primary solution for this application.

The Summa F Series flatbed cutters are digital finishing systems built for rigid boards, roll media, and mixed substrate workflows typical of POP environments. A triple-head multifunction platform supports more than 15 tools, allowing cutting, creasing, routing, and marking in a single pass. Automatic tool recognition, integrated camera-based registration, and GoProduce workflow software ensure fast setup, accurate print-to-cut alignment, and repeatable results. With table sizes ranging from compact to large format, the F Series is ideal for foamboard, corrugated plastic, honeycomb, reboard, and ACM panels, seamlessly pairing with UV flatbed printers in high-mix, high-throughput display production.

The V Series—Optima and Omnia—addresses a different POP segment, focusing on rigid, sheetfed display and packaging work. These double-head flatbed cutters are optimized for blade-based operations such as cutting, creasing, kiss cutting, and V-cutting—key for tabletop displays and structural prototypes. The V Series supports a range of rigid materials, from paper and carton to foamboard and corrugated substrates, but does not process roll media. The Omnia variant adds feeder and conveyor automation, enabling unattended cutting for higher volume runs. With formats up to 75×105 centimeters, the V Series is best suited for smaller POP displays and short- to mid-run production where efficiency and consistency are critical.

Supply55, Inc.
Supply55 offers the ExpressCutPRO, a versatile conveyor flatbed CNC cutter engineered to handle a range of materials, making it an essential tool for various print and cut applications. Whether you work with printed rolls of direct to film (DTF) transfers, UV-DTF, sublimation transfers, stencil making, pattern making, or other non-woven media, ExpressCutPRO delivers exceptional performance.

Trotec Laser
Laser-based finishing stands out for its non-contact processing, exceptional edge quality, and ability to produce fine details and premium effects without tool wear. Combined with intuitive, software-driven workflows, Trotec systems help print providers work faster, reduce waste, and consistently deliver high-end displays that meet today’s demanding retail standards.

Vision Engravers
Made in the U.S. since 1983, Vision’s CNC routers are versatile professional-grade machines offered at best-in-class pricing. They have many available options including an oscillating knife, drag knife, creasing tool, raster braille inserter, and DACS Print-To-Cut. These options make Vision’s routers highly capable of making a variety of display and POP applications, taking the place of many other machines to decrease business costs and increase return on investment. Work with metal, wood, plastic, cardboard, dibond, coroplast, foam core, and other materials.

X-Edge Tools
X-Edge router bits and knife blades are engineered specifically for the demands of the sign and graphics industries, where edge quality and consistency have a direct impact on the finished product as well as your bottom line. Product lines such as the Omega Series for acrylic, Viper Series for aluminum and aluminum composite materials, and Razor Series for a range of plastics are designed to deliver superior edge quality while running at faster feed rates than other tools on the market. This combination allows print providers to move jobs through production more quickly, minimize secondary finishing, and increase overall output—without compromising cut quality. The result is a cleaner, more professional finished product produced more efficiently, helping shops improve productivity while protecting margins.

Zund America, Inc.
Zünd’s digital cutting systems—particularly the versatile G3 and ultra-fast, highly productive QLine—are engineered for the diverse, fast turnaround needs of display and POP production. Modular, interchangeable tooling, high precision cutting and routing capabilities, and reliable workflow automation ensure accuracy and repeatability across a range of materials and applications. Combined with intuitive cutter control software and scalable automation options, Zünd systems deliver flexibility, productivity, and long-term adaptability.
