Brandywine Printing of Cumming, GA has been a trusted, full-service, family-owned business for over 25 years. With a staff of eight, it specializes in just about every application imaginable. In 2019, owner Derek Brooks invested in proofing software, but the implementation left the software’s potential underutilized. As the years passed, the escalating volume of non‐print‐ready customer files caused bottlenecks in prepress, and created stress among customer service reps, clients, and prepress—often resulting in costly reprints, missed deadlines, and unhappy customers.

Above: Thanks to Significans, Brandywine’s new customized automated preflight system consists of simple, standardized Enfocus PitStop rules and Switch workflows.

Correcting Costly Canva Chaos
“I remember dealing with recurring issues like missing bleeds and margins and other basic export errors in client‐created files,” says Brooks. “The majority of those were Canva files. But even more alarming was that this was hurting employee morale in sales and production. Some print shops were charging a fee of $30 to handle Canva files to compensate for the extra time to make them print-ready. We eventually charged similar fees up front, but I knew it was only a matter of time before we needed this problem fixed with a more permanent solution.”

The company’s existing workflows involved PDF-based file handling, imposition, RIPing files, printing, lamination, and cutting. Automation software included EFI PrintSmith as its primary ERP system, Enfocus Switch, QuietHOT Impose, and a Plan Prophet CRM system with a ShipStation API for shipping. With all these disparate systems, Brandywine continued to experience challenges including preflighting, which slowed turnarounds; costly human errors; and poor customer experiences. The need to integrate these systems more efficiently while correcting and automating Canva submissions became a priority.

Brandywine’s Automation Journey Begins
In early 2026, Significans Automation partnered with Brandywine, engaging with a planned, step-by-step, solutions-based approach that fully leveraged their underutilized workflow tools, and then was refined on a regular basis through weekly collaboration. Today, 50 percent of supplied files are Canva. Furthermore, many of Brooks’ larger, more established customers are now using Canva instead of professional designers, making print-readiness issues even more common. The solution?

A highly customized workflow was configured by Significans that incorporates Enfocus Switch and PitStop to process problematic Canva files. An API integration connects the workflow with Brandywine’s existing ERP system. The new automated solution pulls job metadata and applies it to file names, so they become easier to locate and work with. The new workflow facilitates more efficient proofing, routing, and archiving of Canva files, which dramatically reduces customer service and prepress issues.

Boosting Efficiency and Employee Morale
Today, Brandywine saves approximately two hours and 20 minutes per day and has reduced prepress interruptions by over 50 percent. This not only freed up staffers to perform more valuable tasks but reduced stress levels.

“This robust new workflow from Significans allows Canva files to be processed automatically with speed and accuracy. We could never do that before. Now we just take the Canva file, drop it into Switch, and it works,” concludes Brooks.
