Completing the profiles on our winners from this year’s Application of the Year awards, we take a look at the runner up in the outdoor category. Budget Truck and Auto Inc., based in Janesville, WI, was established in 1973. The company offers collision repair, custom painting, and vinyl graphics services. It prints out of a 1,200 square foot graphics department and utilizes a 40,000 square foot facility for installation purposes.
Fox Sports Wisconsin
Budget Truck regularly works with Fox Sports Wisconsin. Its entry into Digital Output’s contest highlighted a print and install of a bus graphic. This particular job was a fan appreciation bus wrap for Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers. The client looked to Budget Truck to help them promote the team via out-of-home exposure.
Terry Hines and Associates sent over the design for the wrap. After receiving, Budget Truck completed the print and install in three weeks. Printing of the entire bus occurred on 51-inch panels the height of the bus from back to front. These were output on a Roland DGA Corporation VersaCAMM SP-540V printer with Nazdar 2000 Series digital ink.
According to Mark Polzin, VP sales and marketing, Budget Truck, the printer and ink combination produces excellent color for exterior jobs, with proven resistance to the effects of UV degradation and color fading. Media chosen, 3M Commercial Graphics Controltac Graphic Film with Comply v3 Adhesive IJ180Cv3-10, complements the two.
“The consistent color density values, excellent adhesion, and flexibility are a few of the reasons we constantly choose Nazdar 2000 Series inks to pair with 3M IJ180Cv3-10 film. It gives us the quality and functionally that our customers have come to expect of our work,” adds Polzin.
After the bus graphics were printed, each panel was hung to cover the body of the bus. Each window was then wrapped with a perforated vinyl, which continued the graphic without viewing obstructions. Upon completion of the wrap, trimming around door handles and other parts of the bus occurred.
One challenge was the actual bus not being on site for the duration of the print work. Polzin says that to combat this and more importantly, take into consideration the time constraints if one was to wait for the vehicle to be delivered, the company relied on templates.
“When paired with our experience we know the small changes that need to be made to produce an excellent looking product each and every time,” he continues.
The end result was an impressive sight. The gigantic task of wrapping a 45-foot long motor coach showcases the breadth of experience, precision, and patience a print provider must have to succeed in this type of project. Perhaps this is why Budget Truck is able to do it time and time again.
