Wall murals are examples of the possibilities of print. Placing one in any location is a great conversation piece. This Web-exclusive series profiles wall mural providers who are educated on the best media for the job and their clients.
Selling by Example
The HP Experience Center in Alpharetta, GA opened in January 2011. It serves as a physical demonstration center for potential buyers of HP Indigo, Scitex, Latex, PageWide XL, PageWide Web Press, and DesignJet printers. These buyers come from all over the Americas—North, South, and Central—to consider purchasing an HP printer.
Locally operated, a team of 18 are housed at the 75,000 square foot location, led by Craig Schultz, customer experience and operations manager, Graphics Experience Center, HP. Part of the experience is to showcase the possibilities of print, not only with HP printers, but with its media partners as well. This is shown with real-life applications represented throughout the location. Wall murals are one such application.
According to Schultz, it started showcasing wall murals right away, in 2011. It was a doubly beneficial, as not only could they show what the HP printers could accomplish, but wallcoverings serve as decoration in the space as well. “Wall murals provide impact and communicate messaging,” explains Schultz. About ten percent of the work shown in the HP Experience Center is considered wall murals.
Recently, the HP Experience Center required a graphics refresh. Schultz met Ryan Martin, a representative from Mactac Distributor Products, at an HP Latex event and realized the media company’s product line would be ideal for what he was trying to accomplish. In addition to using Mactac media on the walls, it also relied on the company for floor graphics—which was a major theme of the new design.
Schultz says that the Mactac product line made it easy for them to select the right product for the right application—whether it was floor or wall graphics. Mactac sent over Rebel media and polycarbonate floor laminate within one week.
In total over 2,500 square feet of material was printed on HP Latex printers for the center’s redecoration initiative. Typically, install is either done by Schultz and his team or contracted out, it depends on the scope of the project. The floor graphics portion of the refresh was very large in size and required professional installation.
The appearance after the center’s redesign is very positive. “We host visitors to the HP Graphics Experience Center daily from all of the world. I can say that the comments we receive about the graphics, applications, and overall look of our space is second to none in the industry,” shares Schultz.
Multi-Faceted Application
