Continuing our series on the 2024 Application of the Year winners, next we look at Metro Wraps based in Huntsville, AL. The print provider won third place for its wrap of an Audi RS6 Wagon for Horsepower Therapy.
Alan Wilson, owner, Metro Wraps, holds 25 years of experience in graphic design and digital printing. His career started in signs and then he became vehicle wrap certified in 2008. In 2012, he acquired then-titled Metro Signs and slowly evolved the company into Metro Wraps. Today the business specializes in fleet wraps as well as custom color change wraps and graphics.
For a Good Cause
One of Wilson’s repeat clients is Horsepower Therapy, an all-volunteer non-profit organization formed in Huntsville, AL in 2017 by retired military members, family members, and civilians for the purpose of providing veterans and their families opportunities to get involved in car-related activities. The activities include working on cars and motorcycles, going on rides, getting together at races and car shows, or just showing up for coffee and cars the third Saturday of every month.
Co-founder of Horsepower Therapy, Brian Russell, is a car enthusiast and Army veteran. He first reached out to Metro Wraps in 2018, looking to wrap a Jeep Wrangler for use at the organization’s trail events.
In 2023, Russell purchased an Audi RS6 Wagon, using it as a centerpiece for Horsepower Therapy to gather veterans at its first-ever event on the East Coast at the Europcar-focused L’oe Show in Pottstown, PA.
This wrap, with a design completed by Scott Skepple of Skepple Inc., was printed and installed by Metro Wraps using Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions MPI 1105 SuperCast wrapping film and Avery Dennison DOL 1380Z Matte Overlaminate. Graphics were printed on an Epson SureColor S60600 printer.
“This wrap is unique in the way that it’s a flawless install on very difficult body lines. The modern camouflage design embodies the work of Horsepower Therapy. The design of the wrap had to line up perfectly in certain areas making the install process complicated,” shares Wilson.
At Its Core
Metro Wraps’ work for Horespower Therapy is an excellent example of its core base. Wilson admits that 2024 brought change to the shop, as it tried some different business avenues, however, through the trials and tribulations, he came to find out that its core strength is custom vehicle wraps.
Congrats again to Metro Wraps for its third place win the Application of the Year contest. The next article in this series looks at the honorable mention winner, Colorlab of Greenville, SC.
