The December issue of Digital Output includes editorial on when and why to use pretreatments and primers in wide format printing, specifically with UV, solvent, and latex/resin ink sets.
To accompany the printed feature, we include a quick roundup on available pretreatments/primers here.
A.T. Inks has an extensive portfolio of UV inkjet inks— hard, flexible, and hybrid—for all types of piezoelectric printheads used in scanning and single-pass applications. Its UV inks achieve strong adhesion to polyethylene and polypropylene substrates after corona/plasma treatments. Its primers are available to enhance the adhesion in instances where a primer is not required for substrates like rigid PVC, polystyrene, and acrylic sheets. Also available, a portfolio of digital UV primers for most piezo printheads. The digital primers can be further optimized for specific applications like high-speed) single-pass printing.
Boston Industrial Solutions, Inc.’s UV adhesion promoters ensure perfect UV ink bonding, regardless of the UV ink or equipment manufacturer. These primers are cutting edge and easy to work with. These UV ink adhesion promoters help any printing ink stick to even the toughest printing applications. Use these primers with any type of inkjet equipment manufacturer or ink manufacturer.
lnkcups offers a variety of inkjet primers, categorized by surface type. XF Primer promotes adhesion on some powder coated and plastic substrates. Available as a jettable primer, no flame pretreatment is necessary. Magicoat Glass Primer is for glass and metal. It utilizes a three-step spray process to encourage better bonding.
INX International Ink Co. promotes several pretreatments used with its ink products. The AC9139 primer is for UV inks on corrugated and paper-based substrates and is applied by an inline coater. BondAid I is an adhesion promoter for UV prints on metal, glass, and tile. BondAid 11 is an adhesion promoter used on various plastics, and both are applied by wiping it on. JAMP and JAMT are jettable promoters for plastics and metal and tile, respectively.
Marabu North America recently introduced Marabu Jettable Primer. Digitally printed inline with UV inks and varnish, it eliminates the need for wiping or spraying primers. Other primers in the Marabu lineup include UltraJet P2, P4, and P5, these can be wiped on manually with cloth or machine sprayed. P2 is for untreated plastics like polypropylene and polyethene; P4 is for plastic, metals, and colored glass; and P5 is for UV printed glass.
Nazdar’s adhesion promoters help with difficult to adhere to substrates. Nazdar 7020 Adhesion Promotion is a wipe-on primer to improve adhesion of Nazdar UV-curable digital inks to substrates such as polypropylene and acrylic. Designed for applications requiring die and router cut chip resistance or improved tape pull resistance. Nazdar 7025 UV Glass Primer is a wipe-on primer to improve adhesion of Nazdar UV-curable digital inks to glass and enamel coated aluminum composite panels. Nazdar 7030 UV Adhesion Promoter is a wipe-on primer to improve adhesion of Nazdar UV-curable digital inks on difficult-to-adhere-to point-of-purchase substrates. Nazdar 7035 UV Adhesion Promoter is a wipe-on primer to improve adhesion of Nazdar UV-curable digital inks to rigid polyethylene.
Supply55, Inc. provides UV adhesion promoters for use with UV and LED inkjet flatbed printers and roller coaters. AP2155 is an adhesion promoter, anti-static, and cleaner for use when printing to plastic substrates like coroplast, polystyrene, PVC, and HDPE.
