Magnetic and magnetic-receptive solutions come in various thicknesses. Over the years, “thin” materials have become popular. Print providers use them for labels, retail graphics, business cards, and even vehicle graphics. Exhibiting less weight, thin magnets are easier to load and run through a wide format printer.
For the purposes of this article, we define thin magnetic material as anything around 7- to 17-mil or 0.007 to 0.017 inches thick. Here are some options currently on the market.
Adams Magnetic Products
MegaMAG is a flexible magnet sheet available in 40-, 48-, 50-, and 60-inch widths for signs, screen printing, point of purchase displays, and digital imaging.
Available in 15-, 20-, or 30-mil thicknesses, MegaMAG is for most print media applications. It is offered plain, with adhesive, or with a printable laminate that can be used with UV and latex ink printers. It’s also available with white dry erase laminate. For custom and special orders, Adams laminates other substrates to a MegaMAG product.
Arnold Magnetic Technologies
The company offers thin magnet for most of the common print methods used in the print industry today.
Entice is a pre-magnetized magnet that is used when the customer does not want to magnetize the magnet after printing. The magnet is weaker so that it will transport through the printer.
Energize is a un-magnetized product used when the customer wants to magnetize the magnet after it is printed. The Energize is a stronger magnetic material.
Magnum Magnetics
DigiMaxx EnGage is an 11-mil easy-to-install printable magnetic-receptive media that is durable and features excellent adhesion. EnGage media is engineered with an optimized surface for superior print quality and offers a neutral white point. It provides an impressive array of benefits from large format printer compatibility and no edge chipping without sacrificing performance at an affordable price point.
Master Magnetics, Inc.
ThinFORCE high-energy magnetic sheeting with adhesive is the latest advancement in magnetic sheeting. Engineered for indoor and outdoor applications, ThinFORCE provides exceptional magnetic strength in a thinner and lighter magnetic material.
ThinFORCE offers the same attracting power as regular strength 30-mil magnet, but with half the thickness and weight. It includes indoor/outdoor acrylic adhesive on the weak side of the magnetic sheet. It’s the ideal base for the Magnetic Graphics System as it holds up to three layers of FlexIRON magnetic-receptive printed graphics. It is also great for adhering other graphics that print on non-magnetic substrates, such as banners, retail displays, wallcoverings, and all applications where lightweight, strong magnetic sheeting with adhesive is needed.
New Force Magnetics
New Force Magnetics offers thinner gauge magnetic-receptive material in 0.007, 0.012, and 0.016 inches. The magnetic-receptive material is part of the company’s changeable graphics and signage product. Print on the magnetic-receptive material, and then adhere it to a New Force adhesive-back magnetic sheet already placed on a backer board or wall.
Newlife Magnetics, LLC
Newlife Magnetics offers printable wide format magnet rolls up to 60 inches wide and as thin as 12-mil. EM Ultrawide magnet is available in 12-,15-, and 20-mil thicknesses in 54- and 60-inch wide rolls. It features s a high-quality PET print surface that is solvent, UV, and latex compatible.
Newlife Magnetics just launched its latest innovation for the HP Indigo/offset market, Newlife PressMag sheets. This is a 16-mil, pre-magnetized, photo quality PP print surface sheet that runs in most Indigo/offset presses. It is available in 12×18-,13×19-, 20.8125×29.5-, and 28×40-inch sheets.
Newlife also offers a PrintMag High Energy line for customers that need a thinner, lighter, stronger magnet option.
XCEL
XCEL carries 0.015-inch thickness in 48-inch widths as well as 0.020-inch thickness in 24.375-, 40-, and 48-inch widths. It can convert to any length roll or any size sheet.
Thin Magnets
Consider thinner gauge magnet solutions when a customer is looking for an easy-to-change signage option, vehicle decal, or even labels.
