Becoming familiar with your next printer purchase means understanding the warranty options, whether it’s the first year or extended program.
The March issue of Digital Output discusses warranty options for wide format roll-to-roll printers and the following extends on the interviewed company’s programs a bit further.
Agfa
All Agfa engines come with a standard one year warranty, covering non-consumable parts, telephone and remote support, and on-site services including preventive maintenance.
Agfa offers a one year warranty which covers on-site support including travel, telephone, and remote support; preventive maintenance visits; and non-consumable parts. Agfa also offers a variety of services to help print service providers (PSPs) improve quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
Epson
Epson offers a one year factory “in box” limited warranty for most wide format roll-to-roll printers. Due to the size of Epson large format printers, the limited warranties offered generally provide on-site, next-business-day service, pending the location of the printer—at times, it may take a few additional days for a technician to reach remote locations. Epson’s “bumper-to-bumper” limited warranty coverage includes the printheads. Some manufacturers do not cover this part as it is considered a maintenance part.
Epson also provides customer support via phone, providing customers access to the service team who can troubleshoot the printer remotely and, if necessary, ship required parts and schedule an on-site technician within days to complete the repair.
Epson offers the Epson Preferred Plus extended service plan, which is up to a total of five years of continuous coverage. The plan provides the same level of service as the standard limited warranty—just for longer. During this time, Epson sends certified Epson on-site technicians to troubleshoot any qualifying issue, helping to reduce printer downtime and providing customers peace of mind and keeping their printers at peak performance for longer.
Epson offers customers a discount if they purchase an extended service plan when they purchase their printer. However, customers can purchase extended service plans if they are covered under an existing limited warranty or no longer covered under a limited warranty or service plan, if they meet certain eligibility requirements.
Fluid Color
Fluid Color’s three-year warranty for roll-to-roll printers offers comprehensive coverage. During the first year, the warranty includes non-consumable parts, labor, manufacturer defects, and CMYK printheads, ensuring full operational support. In years two and three, the warranty transitions to cover non-consumable parts only, providing extended protection for key components. This structure ensures reliability and support throughout the printer’s early life while minimizing operational costs for the user.
Mimaki USA, Inc.
Mimaki warrants to the original end user that eligible Mimaki Products conform to the published specifications and are free from defects in materials or workmanship, subject to the conditions listed. The duration of any service agreement is one year from date of shipment from Mimaki. This warranty covers installations in the U.S. and Canada.
For the new CJV200 Series print and cut models, the PSP’s investment is protected with a comprehensive three-year warranty, including one year of Mimaki Total Care warranty and two additional years of Mimaki Parts Plus+ Service Agreement to keep the CJV200 Series up and running—including printheads.
Roland DGA Corporation
Roland’s eco-solvent, UV, and latex roll-to-roll printers come with a one-year warranty, plus an additional year of warranty coverage when the owner registers the printer within 60 days of delivery, connects to the Roland DG connect app, and uses Roland DG inks exclusively during the warranty.
For printers or printer/cutters covered under a two year limited warranty, Roland corrects any failure of the product to conform to specifications, or any defect in material or workmanship, with either new or used replacement parts. In the event it is unable to repair the product to conform to the warranty, Roland, at its sole discretion, either replaces any defective component or hardware product. Any replacement product or parts installed during the warranty period are warrantied for the balance of the original warranty period.
In April of 2023, Roland launched the new Roland DG Care Plus plan, an extended warranty contract program that allows TrueVIS Series roll-to-roll printer or printer/cutter customers to purchase an extended warranty at purchase of machine—either one or two years of additional coverage—at a significant savings. Those who buy a new TrueVIS inkjet to save up to $999 when they purchase warranty contract extensions through the new Roland DG Care PLUS plan. Leasing customers can also benefit from this plan by rolling the discounted price for their third and/or fourth year extended warranty contracts into their monthly lease payments when bundled at the time they enter the lease agreement, extending the coverage over the entire term at a minimal additional monthly cost.
StratoJet USA
The company offers a standard 12 month warranty on all roll-to-roll printers, which covers parts, labor, and technical support. For customers seeking longer protection, it provides extended warranty options of up to 36 months. Unlike some competitors, extended warranties include regular maintenance checks, priority technical support, and discounts on consumables and replacement parts. These added features help customers maintain peak productivity while reducing operating costs.
swissQprint
swissQprint offers a standard 36 month warranty and includes full coverage. It something fails due to a manufacturing defect, there is no cost to the printer. Normal consumable items are excluded, and printheads are not a consumable.
